DO I NEED A REFERRAL TO SEE A PSYCHOLOGIST?
You do not need a doctor’s referral to see a psychologist. If you are eligible to claim a Medicare rebate for your consultation you need to see a doctor so that the appropriate Medicare paperwork (referred to as a ‘Mental Health Care Plan’) can be completed and forwarded to us. Your GP can forward your plan to us at hello@elevationpsychology.com.au
CAN I GET A REBATE FOR MY SESSIONS?
Note that a Mental Health Care Plan entitles you to a rebate from Medicare. If you have private health insurance you may also be entitled to a rebate. Each fund is different so it is worth checking with your fund to see what your entitlements are. You can use your private health insurance and Mental Health Care Plan but not at the same time - so you may wish to compare the rebates you are entitled to in order to decide which one to use.
WHEN ARE YOU OPEN?
Clinic days are Monday to Thursday, 9am-5pm.
IS THERE PARKING ON SITE?
Yes, there is free parking at the back of our building (77 Oxford Street) along the fence, as well as spots around Bulimba Memorial Park and nearby side streets. The carpark can be accessed via Godwin Street and Love Street.
HOW SOON CAN I GET AN APPOINTMENT?
We will endeavour to book you in as soon as possible. Sometimes our psychologists are at capacity and unable to take new patients. At the moment we have a Registered Psychologist with availability.
HOW LONG DO SESSIONS LAST?
Appointments are 50-60 minutes in duration.
HOW MANY SESSIONS WILL I NEED?
Generally, counselling involves a few weeks of relatively intensive treatment (generally 1 session per week), followed by as many sessions as you and your psychologist feel is appropriate (usually fortnightly or monthly). This is dependent upon the treatment you require and our team's availability.
IS IT NORMAL TO FEEL ANXIOUS ABOUT SEEING A PSYCHOLOGIST FOR THE FIRST TIME?
Yes, it is common for people to experience some initial nervousness. We are aware of this and we strive to provide a warm and understanding environment to help you feel more comfortable.
CAN I BRING A SUPPORT PERSON?
Sure! Your family member or friend is welcome to come into the session with you or to sit in our reception area. We are also right across the road from a park with benches in the shade and there are plenty of cafes nearby.
WHAT TYPES OF PSYCHOLOGICAL TREATMENT STRATEGIES ARE USED?
Psychologists draw from a wide range of evidence-based treatment modalities. Some of these include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness, Schema Focused Therapy and Interpersonal Therapy.
We would be happy to discuss your individual needs. Please contact us to make an appointment.
